Yves Saint Laurent Tuxedo, from the Le Vestiaire des Parfums collection by perfumer Juliette Karagueuzoglou, opens with a violet leaf accord, bergamot and coriander seed, moves into a rose and lily-of-the-valley heart sharpened with black pepper, and settles into a bold patchouli base rounded out with ambergris and Bourbon vanilla. As the name suggests, it's built around a sharply 'tailored' patchouli — earthy, smoky and woody, with none of the dated hippie-patchouli sweetness, more like a well-cut evening jacket. Tuxedo suits autumn and winter especially, with strong projection and long-lasting wear, and is a good pick for anyone who wants a confident, patchouli-forward chypre rather than a soft or fresh scent. A Maison decant (1/2/5/10 ml) lets you test Tuxedo's violet-rose-patchouli structure on your own skin before investing in the full bottle.
